AN INTRODUCTORY COURSE IN SPIRITUALITY AND PSYCHOTHERAPY

For the Winter and Spring of 2001

This 14 session course is an introduction to the emerging field of spirituality and psychotherapy. In the spirit of open mutual dialogue, the course is designed for both experienced therapists and those new to the field who are committed to exploring the spiritual dimension of their work. FACULTY BIOGRAPHY

Debra Flics, C.S.W., is a Jungian-oriented psychotherapist and psychoanalyst in New York City and a practitioner of Buddhist meditation. She is on the faculty of New York University School of Social Work.

Diana Kerievsky, C.S.W., is a psychotherapist in Manhattan and Great Neck who was for 30 years an analysand, student and Research Associate of Thomas Hora, M.D., the founder of The Institute of Metapsychiatry. She has researched the willingness of therapists to explore spiritual issues with their patients and has also published on group psychotherapy.

Bruce Kerievsky, A.B., was a student of Metapsychiatry for 30 years and was the editor of "Beyond The Dream" by Thomas Hora, M.D. His article, Metapsychiatry And The Elusive Truth of Being was recently published in the Spring 2000 Journal of Religion & Health. He is the President of K2 Consulting Enterprises, Inc., a computer consulting firm in Great Neck, NY.

Daniel Merchant, C.S.W., is a psychotherapist in private practice in New York City. Trained in Western psychology he has integrated his 25 years as a student of Buddhism as well as the healing teachings of native people from various indigenous cultures into his work as a therapist.

Susan Alice Mufson, C.S.W., is a psychotherapist in private practice in New York City specializing in trauma and abuse, spiritual issues, and animal-assisted therapy. She is an author of children’s books and will be ordained as an Interfaith Minister in June, 2001.

Kenneth Porter, M.D., is the Co-Director of the Center for Spirituality & Psychotherapy and has practiced Buddhist meditation for many years. He is the co-founder of the Eastern Group Psychotherapy Training Program. His forthcoming book is, Saturn’s Child: Healing Your Depression with Spiritual Lessons from a Holistic Psychiatrist.

Lynn Preston, M.A., M.S., is a supervisor and psychotherapist in private practice in New York City. She is on the faculty of TRISP (Training & Research Institute for Self Psychology) and ICP (Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapies). She is a certified Focusing Trainer and was the organizer of the APSP conference entitled "The Self & the Spirit."

Schedule of Classes: Classes will meet on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. Note: Lynn Preston’s class will meet from 8:00 to 9:30 pm

Classes will begin Monday 01/29/2001

Classes will not meet Monday 02/19/01 nor Monday 04/09/01

The Final Class will meet on 05/14/01
